Stole (Scarf)

A stole is a woman's shawl, especially a formal shawl of expensive fabric used around the shoulders over a party dress or ballgown.

A stole is typically narrower than a shawl, and of simpler construction than a cape; being a length of a quality material, wrapped and carried about the shoulders or arms. Lighter materials such as silk and chiffon are simply finished, that is, cropped, hemmed and bound.

Pashmina (پشمینه)

Pashmina refers to a type of fine cashmere wool and the textiles made from it and was first invented in India. The name comes from Pashmineh (پشمینه), Persian for "made from "pashm" (meaning "wool" in Persian). The wool comes from changthangi or Pashmina goat, which is a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayas in Nepal, Pakistan and Northern India. Pashmina shawls are hand spun, woven and embroidered in Nepal and Kashmir, and made from fine cashmere fibre. The fibre is also known as pashm or Pashmina for its use in the handmade shawls of Himalayas.

Pashmina accessories are available in a range of sizes, from "scarf" 12 in × 60 in (0.30 m × 1.5 m) to "wrap" or "stole" 28 in × 80 in (0.71 m × 2.0 m) to full sized shawl 36 in × 80 in (0.91 m × 2.0 m) and in rare cases, "Macho" 12 ft × 12 ft (3.7 m × 3.7 m). Pure Pashmina is a rather gauzy, open weave, as the fibre cannot tolerate high tension. The most popular Pashmina fabric is a 70% Pashmina/30% silk blend, but 50/50 is also common. The 70/30 is tightly woven, has an elegant sheen and drapes nicely, but is still quite soft and light-weight.
